2018 | West Cork
Construction Documents were produced by Shea Hartigan for this three storey new build house designed by Jack Coughlan Architects on a small site in a West Cork town. This project was technically challenging due to the limited accessibility of the site, the steep incline across the site, the design which called for building to the site boundary, and the integration multiple external wall types.
The design proposal called for a two storey living space over a single storey semi-basement which accommodated bedrooms and ancillary spaces. All bedrooms are located off the lower south garden which allows for a wall of full height glazing to light the bedrooms. The two storey living block steps back from the line of the bedrooms below on two sides to create a deck area which is accessed of the kitchen and dining room and offers south and south west light as well as views over the harbor.
A circulation hall and main stair is located to the north of the bedrooms and living areas. The stair and hall allow for light to pass through the three storey structure to the basement level. Skylights are punctured through the deck to provide light to the basement areas below. Services, ancillary areas, the main entrance, and a carport are all located to the north of the site beyond the circulation hall and main stair
