Temporary Assisted Living

2018 | Cork City Suburbs
This Temporary Housing Scheme is to comprise of single storey studios located on the site of an existing hotel. The existing hotel building is already in use as temporary housing/assisted living, and is to remain in use during partial demolition of the existing hotel building, and through the construction of the No. 30 new studio apartments. The proposal shown aimed to achieve private open space to the rear of the units whilst creating a shared communal area to their individual entrances. This was to heighten the sense of personal space, and independence whilst allowing for efficient circulation for staffing. The studios would accommodate a kitchen to allow for further independence from the main facilities. Hotels are being commonly used to house homeless people at this time in Ireland. This includes families. This project is a staffed facility. It was proposed to temporarily accommodate homeless individuals who are also suffering with mental health issues and not families.
